Your Electrician in Brighton, Ontario
I'm Al, and I work on a lot of properties in Brighton, from cottage conversions near Presqu'ile to older homes downtown on Main Street. My shop in Warkworth is only about 25 km east, so I'm in the area regularly and can usually get to you same-day or next-day.

Cottages, Conversions, and Lake Weather
Brighton is a cottage town that's become a year-round community. A lot of properties near Presqu'ile Provincial Park and along the Lake Ontario shoreline started as summer places with simple wiring, 60-amp panels, a handful of outlets, no heating infrastructure. They were built for weekends in July, not life in January.
Now people are retiring here, working remotely, or just deciding they love it enough to stay through the winter. That means the wiring has to change. A panel sized for a cottage fridge and a few lights can't handle heat pumps, modern kitchens, and central air. I do a lot of these cottage-to-home conversions, and each one is a bit different depending on the age of the building and how much DIY work accumulated over the decades. Some of the things I've found behind walls would make your hair stand up.
Then there's the weather. Living on Lake Ontario means storms that inland towns don't see. The March 2025 ice storm was a wake-up call for a lot of folks. The municipality declared a Significant Weather Event, trees came down across power lines, and some homes went days without power stretching into April. Road closures from downed lines made restoration even slower for properties north of the lakeshore.
Since then, I've installed more generators in Brighton than anywhere else I serve. When you've sat through three days without heat in late March, backup power stops feeling like a luxury. A properly installed standby generator with an automatic transfer switch means you don't even have to be home when the power drops. It kicks in on its own and keeps your heating, fridge, well pump, and lights running until the grid comes back.
Brighton also has a significant senior population, about a third of residents are 65 and older. Many of the people I work with here are focused on reliability and safety over the latest smart home gadgets. They want things done right, they want it to last, and they want someone who'll pick up the phone if something goes wrong later. That's how I operate anyway, so it's a good fit.
Lakefront and Waterfront Properties
Waterfront properties along Shoal Point, Evergreen Lane, and the areas around Presqu'ile need wiring that can handle what the lake throws at it. Moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, wind, and the occasional lightning strike all take a toll on outdoor components. I've seen junction boxes corroded through after just a couple of seasons because the original installer used standard indoor-rated hardware.
Dock and boathouse wiring in particular needs proper GFCI protection and weatherproofing. This isn't something you want to cut corners on near water. I use marine-grade and weatherproof-rated materials for all outdoor lakefront work. It costs a bit more upfront, but it holds up year after year instead of needing replacement every few seasons.
If you have a lakefront property with outdoor lighting, a powered dock, or a hot tub, it's worth having someone take a look at your grounding and surge protection as well. Lightning activity along the shoreline is no joke, and a single good strike can take out thousands of dollars worth of electronics if you're not protected.
